The NESG - Ogilvie Publishing
Oil & Gas Summit 2004

The fifth annual conference in Nigeria was the most successful yet with top government officials and the heads of all the major operators outlining and discussing their own views on how the future of the industry should be shaped to help benefit the nation.

The Presidential Adviser on Peroleum and Energy, Dr. Edmund Daukoru, gave insight into the steps the government will be considering in the future in order to ensure foreign companies are forced to use local firms where possible. The heads of Shell, ChevronTexaco, Statoil and Petrobras in Nigeria all responded with their own views on how local content could best be encouraged while simultaneously ensuring efficient operations and in turn told the government what they needed to ensure speedy progress.

Other speakers included the head of rising star NPDC who outlined how far the operator has come in recent years but hinted at the importance the company will play in future years as the government tries to follow the path of national oil companies such as Petrobras and Sonatrach.

The conference was attended by over 150 top executives from operators, contractors, service companies and the investment sector. There was ample time for informal networking.
